Join the Beta

Everything you need to install Datum and start testing.

The Beta is open, and it's invite-only — there's no public sign-up link. Alton invites testers individually, so you'll get an email from TestFlight at whatever address you gave him. If you'd like in and haven't been invited, just ask.

What you'll need#

  • An iPhone running iOS 18 or later
  • An Apple ID signed in on that iPhone
  • The email address you gave Alton — the invitation goes there, so tell him if you'd rather use a different one

1. Install TestFlight#

TestFlight is Apple's own app for installing betas — it's how you'll get Datum before it's on the App Store. Install it from the App Store if you don't already have it: Get TestFlight on the App Store.

2. Open your invitation#

You'll get an email from TestFlight with the subject "You're invited to test Datum". Open it on your iPhone and tap View in TestFlight — it opens the app straight to Datum.

Can't find it? Check your spam folder, and check it's the address you gave Alton. The invitation is tied to that specific Apple ID email, so it won't work from a different one.

3. Install Datum#

Inside TestFlight, tap Install (or Update, for later Beta builds). Datum will appear on your home screen just like any other app.

4. Open Datum and get started#

That's it — you're in. Datum works entirely on-device, so there's no account to create. See Getting Started for a walkthrough of the app itself.

5. Send feedback or report a bug#

Use TestFlight's own built-in feedback — either shake your iPhone while in Datum, or open TestFlight, tap Datum, and choose Send Beta Feedback. Screenshots attach automatically, which helps a lot, so this is still the best route during the Beta.

Datum also has Report a bug and Request a feature in Settings, which open a pre-filled email. No screenshot attaches automatically, but it works for anything TestFlight doesn't suit — and it's the route that stays once the Beta ends. See Settings for exactly what's included.
