This Privacy Policy explains how Datum ("the app," "we," "us") handles your information. If you have questions, contact us at [email protected].

The Short Version#

Datum is built to keep your data yours. Workout data remains on your device, and optional iCloud syncing stores information in your personal account only. The app does not operate independent servers for data collection, does not monetize user information, and does not use health data for advertising. There is no account system requiring personal identification.

Information the app handles#

Data you create in the app. Workout plans, exercises, sets, reps, weights, rest times, workout and exercise notes, body measurements, and custom exercises or images are stored locally on your device.

Apple Health (HealthKit) data. With permission, Datum reads from and writes to Apple Health, potentially accessing workouts, energy metrics, heart rate, body composition data, and dietary information. HealthKit data is processed on your device to power features like trends, reports, and writing completed workouts to Health. It is never transmitted to us.

Bluetooth heart rate monitor (optional, experimental). If you connect a compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitor, Datum reads live heart rate data directly from the device while you log a class or cardio activity. This connection is device-to-device only; it is never transmitted to us.

Location and motion data (optional). For an outdoor walking, running, hiking, cycling, or swimming activity you start yourself, Datum uses your device's location to record a GPS route, distance, and pace, and its motion sensors to count steps and track elevation gain, while that activity is running — including while your phone is locked. This data is processed on your device, saved with that activity, and included when the workout syncs to Apple Health or your own iCloud account. It is never transmitted to us, and location access is never used outside of an activity you've explicitly started.

iCloud sync (optional). Data syncs across your devices through your private CloudKit database. We do not have access to it. Sync is entirely optional and can be disabled anytime.

Purchases and subscriptions. Apple processes all transactions; payment information never reaches the developers.

Diagnostics and analytics. The app contains no third-party tracking or analytics. Apple may share anonymized crash data under its own systems without identifying information.

Cookies on this website#

This section is about datumfitness.app, the website you're reading right now, not the Datum app. To be specific: the Datum app itself uses no third-party analytics or tracking of any kind (see "Diagnostics and analytics" above); the only analytics anywhere in this picture is described below, and it runs only on this website.

What it is. Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google's own analytics service, and nothing else, no ad network, no remarketing, no other tracker of any kind runs on this site.

How consent works. GA4 does not load and no cookie is set until you click "Accept" on the banner shown when you first visit. Declining, or simply not answering, means it never runs, and the site works exactly the same either way. You can change your answer at any time with "Cookie preferences" in the footer.

What it measures. Aggregate website traffic only: which pages are visited, roughly how visitors found the site, approximate location (country/region), and device type. It is not linked to Google Ads, does not build advertising profiles, and is never used to personalize ads to you.

Who processes this data. Google, under Google's Privacy Policy. Data may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States.

Your rights. Decline or withdraw consent at any time via "Cookie preferences" in the footer, with no effect on how the site works. If you're in the EU, UK, or EEA, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of data about you, and to object to its processing. How your information is used#

Information serves only to provide app functionality: recording workouts, generating reports, enabling device sync, and managing authorized Apple Health access. Marketing and profiling do not occur.

Apple Health data commitments#

Datum uses HealthKit data only for health and fitness features, never for advertising or data mining, does not sell HealthKit information, and shares data only with explicit permission or legal requirement.

How your information is shared#

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. Only Apple handles data as the device, storage, and payment provider.

Data storage, security, and retention#

Data resides on your device and optionally in your iCloud account, both protected by iOS and iCloud security. Users control retention through deletion options within the app, Health app, or uninstallation.

Your choices and controls#

Children's privacy#

Datum is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from minors.

California privacy rights#

California residents have CCPA/CPRA rights. Because data remains on personal devices and iCloud accounts rather than company servers, users exercise control directly through app and device settings. Questions can be directed to [email protected].

This website's opt-in analytics cookie (see "Cookies on this website" above) does not involve selling or sharing personal information under the CCPA/CPRA, and it only runs if you actively accept it.
